Steve Jobs’s secret legacy: Dying Apple boss left plans for four years of new products

Despite knowing he was dying, Steve Jobs worked for more than a year on the products that he believed would safeguard the company’s future.

It was also revealed today that Jobs fought hard to get plans approved for a spaceship-style company headquarters in California. It will be big enough to hold 12,000 employees in a park-like setting near the existing base in Cupertino. He appeared at a town council meeting in June to plead for the planning go ahead.

Visionary: Steve Jobs introducing the iPad2 in San Francisco on March 2 this year Jobs had a part-time job working for Hewlett Packard at the site when he was 13 and he ensured Apple bought the land when it became available.

A family grieves… the whole world mourns: Friends and relatives gather at Steve Jobs’s California mansion as shrines pop up across the globe
‘I wasn’t always there for them, and I wanted them to know why’: Steve Jobs authorised biography so his children can know him Steve Jobs’s core of steel: Apple boss’s brave cancer battle (and how his company kept it secret for so long) Brilliant, yes, but he wasn’t an Einstein.

Will Apple lose its shine without the boss as it faces competition from Samsung and Amazon? He has also been overseeing the development of the delayed iCloud project, which will allow Apple users to store their music, photos and other documents remotely and masterminding updated versions of the iPod, iPad, iPhone and MacBooks, ensuring at least four years’ worth of products are in the pipeline, according to Apple sources.

Michael Jackson's brother and sister Tito and La Toya and his children Prince Michael, Prince Michael II and Paris among those on stageMichael Jackson’s brother and sister Tito and La Toya and his children Prince Michael, Prince Michael II and Paris among those on stage It was difficult not to be humbled by the atmosphere backstage at Michael Forever.

Motown legends and global pop superstars alike reflected on the huge contribution Michael Jackson made to them as individuals as well as generations of fans around the world. For some Saturday’s concert at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff was an opportunity to remember the good times, the personal moments they had spent with the star, who died aged 50 in 2009.

“Start Quote

He grew up around me and I saw him develop into a man who inspired generations of people and musicians” Smokey Robinson Motown legend Gladys Knight told me how she remembered Michael as a child, when he would visit the recording studio with his brothers in the Jackson 5 to watch her rehearse with her backing group, the Pips.

“He was my baby,” she recalled. “Michael must have been, what, six years old when I first met him. ”I just watched him grow and we would get together, with me and the Pips, and they would ask us questions about the business. When they first came they packed their little packed lunches and get on the sofa. “Michael was such a very special and gifted young man.” Smokey Robinson, who had known Michael Jackson since the singer was 10, said: “He grew up around me and I saw him develop into a man who inspired generations of people and musicians”.

Robinson who hails from Detroit, Michigan, recorded worldwide hits like Tears of a Clown and I Second That Emotion, later becoming vice-president of the Motown label. “He had a great effect on me because he was my little brother,” said Robinson. “You know, he’s family. “I miss him, I’m sorry he had to leave here so young. I regret the fact that I didn’t get to spend more time with him in his latter years.” There had been speculation before the show about how many of the 50,000 tickets would be sold, and some acts, such as the Black Eyed Peas withdrew. The organisers said on Friday that they had sold 40,000 and were expecting a sell-out. There were a lot of empty seats on the night, but the stadium does hold 74,000, and it was difficult to tell how close to capacity it was for this event. While many fans bought their tickets in advance, a number told me they had not had to pay. But whatever the size of the crowd, it was an impressive production, with a succession of artists appearing on a huge stage before an enthusiastic audience.

Jackson’s three children, Prince Michael, 14, Paris, 13, and Prince Michael II, nine were all in the audience, and their aunt, La Toya Jackson, explained what the concert meant to them. “They never had a chance to see their dad perform and this would have been the first, so this is the closest they’re going to get to that – people honouring him. Describing how she helped Paris, decide what to wear to introduce Beyonce on stage La Toya explained: “She said ‘Oh I’m going to wear Daddy’s red jacket, I’m going to wear it like this’. I was like ‘yeah, you look great’.”

“Start Quote

I’m sure my mother’s cried about five or six times already and then I’m sure she’s smiled about eight or 12 times”  La Toya Jackson But La Toya was quickly overcome with emotion and with tears in her eyes, she told me about the side of her brother the public never got to see. ”You guys got to see a side that was very caring,” she said. ”But you didn’t really see how loving and caring he was, you have no idea. He was very sensitive, would cry over anything. ”Definitely it’s mixed emotions. I’m sure my mother’s cried about five or six times already and then I’m sure she’s smiled about eight or 12 times.” Her voice wobbling and breaking into tears Latoya described how she will remember Michael as “a wonderful person, the way he is”. With the criminal trial of Conrad Murray, the doctor charged with involuntary manslaughter over the star’s death, continuing in the US, not all the Jackson family supported the concert. But ahead of the show I caught up with his brotherTito, Jackie and Marlon Jackson, who told me their justification for going ahead with it.

Tito said: “Michael Jackson was a great artist and his music has touched the entire world. We’re here to celebrate his legacy. He explained: “This concert was in the works before the trial, because they kept moving the trial but I think this is a more positive side of our brother, enjoying some of the more positive side of things we did when we were kids. Marlon said: “Also we weren’t all able to go to the courthouse in Los Angeles because they only gave us so many seats. We have such as big family some members are going to the court and some are here.” Michael Jackson’s brothers, who helped to organise the tribute, said beforehand they were most looking forward to singing with JLS. Not surprisingly, JLS were delighted when I revealed this to Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Oritsé Williams and JB just as they came off after their duet. “That’s fantastic, do you know what, the brothers have been absolutely amazing to us,” said JB. “They’ve been nothing but uncles and father figures to us. Marvin said: “It’s unbelievable what we just did, for us growing up listening to the legendary Jackson brothers. Oritsé said: “Marvin just took Jackie Jackson’s number so hopefully when we go out to America we’ll meet up with them.”

Michael Jackson’s Son to Make First Solo Appearance

BY KAREN NICKEL ANHALT

Michael Jackson's Son to Make First Solo Appearance

Prince Michael Jackson (left) and Michael Jackson’s Bad album cover

In his first solo foray into the limelight, Michael Jackson’s son, Prince Michael, will be in Berlin for a Nov. 10 auction in support of a cause dear to his late father’s heart: helping disadvantaged kids.

The 14-year-old will be there for the sale of his dad’s handwritten composition of the hit “Bad.” All proceeds from the auction will go to the Tribute to Bambi foundation, which supports organizations in Germany that aid needy children.“Prince Michael Jackson will walk the red carpet and present the manuscript on stage surrounded by children,” a spokesperson for the event tells PEOPLE.The teen is expected to arrive with an entourage but without relatives. “He won’t be traveling alone,” says a source close to the event, “but he won’t have any family members with him.”In 2002, when he was 5, Prince Michael visited Berlin with his father, sister Paris and brother Blanket for the same event. (Staying at the Adlon Hotel on that occasion, Michael memorable dangled baby blanket over the balcony before adoring fans.)In previous auctions for the charity, Michael’s glittery jacket and an autographed guitar went on the block, in in 2002 and 2009, respectively. Those wishing to bid on the “Bad” manuscript may do so online between now and Nov. 10, at United Charity.Asked to predict how much the manuscript might fetch, a spokeswoman laughed and said, “Hopefully, a whole lot!”

In August 1983 James Brown and band were playing the Beverly Theatre in Los Angeles with legendary blues man B.B. King for what was already a formidable pairing of music royalty. Then halfway through the set that evening James Brown introduced a very special guest to join him onstage – a 25 year old Michael Jackson, hot on the heels of his Thriller album at the time, inconspicuously watching the show from the audience. Michael wowed the crowd with a spontaneous song and dance performance that was spectacular and all too brief.

*NOTE: Straight after Michael’s mini performance James Brown asked Prince onstage. Sadly this footage doesn’t include Prince but it can be found elsewhere on YouTube.

Wow… what a night! A bona fide star collision on one stage that was never to be repeated.

Alexis Stewart BookAolTV By Chris Patrick: What’s living with Martha Stewart like? Well, according to her daughter Alexis, it wasn’t exactly all crafts and Christmas magic. According to the Daily Mail, Alexis is opening up about her childhood in a new book, ‘Whateverland: Learning to Live Here.’

“If I didn’t do something perfectly, I had to do it again… I grew up with a glue gun pointed at my head,” Alexis says in her new book out Oct. 18.

Alexis is Martha’s only child. A divorced mother of one, she previously co-hosted radio and TV shows ‘Whatever, Martha’ and ‘Whatever, You’re Wrong!’ on the Hallmark Channel. In ‘Whatever, Martha,’ Alexis and co-host Jennifer Hutt would make fun of old ‘Martha Stewart Living’ episodes and then try to cook or complete the project of the episode.

The domestic diva known for all things home wasn’t exactly sensitive to the needs of a child, Alexis writes.

“Martha was not interested in being kid friendly,’ Alexis says. “She used to make me wrap my own presents. She would hand me things right before Christmas and say, ‘Now wrap these but don’t look inside.’”

Forget the holidays, according to Alexis regular home life wasn’t very typical. It seems Martha had a penchant for using the bathroom … with the door open. “Mother always peed with the door open. “I remember saying, ‘You know, now I have friends over! You can’t do that anymore! It’s gotta stop! My friends’ parents don’t do it! Give me a break here! I don’t feel like being embarrassed! It’s exhausting! I’m a kid! Stop!”‘

But Alexis could always count on her home to be filled with the wonderful joys of Martha’s cooking, right? Well, not according to her book.

“There was never anything to eat at my house,” she says. “Other people had food. I had no food … There were ingredients but no prepared food of any kind.”

Alexis writes Martha’s parenting — or lack thereof — comes from the domestic goddess’ own upbringing. One of six kids, Alexis says Martha grew up with nothing.

While talking about their neighbors, one of whom was a woman who was married to an wealthy unattractive man, Alexis says Martha gave her this little piece of advice: “[My] mother actually told me when I was a small child, ‘Now Alexis, if this ever happens, you make sure you have sex with somebody else to have their baby. Don’t have his baby.’ She was very practical about it. It was a survival skill — you have someone rich and ugly who takes care of you, and you have someone who’s hot and makes attractive babies.”

About WEN Hair Care:

A passion for haircare.

Celebrity stylist Chaz Dean presents  revolutionary WEN hair care without the harsh chemicals in some ordinary shampoos.

Why It’s Different

Celebrity stylist Chaz Dean presents WEN®, an industry-changing product line that is the first ever to exclude ordinary shampoo. What sets WEN® apart from the rest is its cleansing conditioner, a single-step process that cleanses and conditions the hair simultaneously.

Unlike many ordinary shampoos, WEN® cleansers are made with natural ingredients and contain no sodium laurel sulfate or other damaging detergents. They don’t lather; instead, they create smooth foam when mixed with water for shinier, healthier-looking, more manageable results.

WEN® Styling Crème

Instead of using a gel for hold and a polishing gloss for shine, you can achieve both with WEN Hair Care Styling Crème. This creamy styling product is designed to help promote moisture, shine and body all in one formula. It’s also designed to manage split ends while improving texture and providing frizz control.

WEN® Re Moist Intensive Hair Treatment

This intensive hair mask was designed for use before and after any chemical treatment or to de-stress hair. It’s designed to add the ultimate moisture, body, and shine to restore and strengthen even extremely damaged hair.

WEN® Texture Balm

WEN® Texture Balm is the ideal finishing touch for creating looks with definition, separation and texture. It’s designed to provide hold and shape for long or short hairstyles.

WEN® Wide Tooth Shower Comb

This hand-finished, saw-cut, wide tooth shower comb is specially designed to evenly distribute WEN Hair Care Cleansing Conditioner through your hair.

WEN® and Ordinary Shampoo

If your hair is dry, frizzy, oily, dull or out of control, the problem might not be your hair—it might just be your shampoo. Shampoos that lather use sulfates and detergents, which can strip your hair of natural essential oils, and make it less manageable. WEN® is different. The creamy formula cleanses and conditions without harsh chemicals to improve the look and feel of hair. Wen Hair is Truly like no other!
